What Does "Right Of" Mean in Logic Grid Puzzles?
The mirror of "left of" — same rules, flipped side.
What it means
"A is right of B" means A's slot number is larger than B's. Like "left of", it fixes order but not distance: A may be directly beside B or several slots away, unless the clue explicitly says "immediately right of".
Direction clues compound. "Ava is right of Sam" and "Sam is right of Mia" merge into Mia < Sam < Ava — three people in fixed order with two clues. On a four-slot row, one more relation usually finishes the entire standing order.
Example on the board
Highlighted: Sam on slot 2 and Ava on slot 4. Ava's slot number is larger, so the clue holds — with Leo between them, which is fine. Combine with "Sam is right of Mia" (not shown) and you get the full order Mia < Sam < Ava.
Correct read: order only — Sam before Ava, gap allowed. Wrong read: Ava directly beside Sam; only "immediately right of" demands that.
Quick check: rebuild the row
The example above shows one solved arrangement. The tiles below are shuffled — tap them in the order that satisfies the clue.
Common mistakes
- Mixing up whose side is whose "A is right of B" puts A on the right. When chains get long, mis-pasting one direction flips the whole order. Rewrite every clue in the same "< means left" notation before merging.
- Assuming adjacency again Same trap as "left of": no "immediately" means any gap. Do not delete the arrangements where someone stands in between.
Frequently asked questions
Is "right of" the opposite of "left of"?
It is the mirror, not the opposite: "A is right of B" ≡ "B is left of A". Both express the same order from the other end.
Can someone be both "right of" and "next to" the same person?
Yes — that combination is exactly "immediately right of": touching slots with A on the right. When two clues overlap like this, merge them into one welded placement.
How many direction clues do I need to solve a row?
For four people, three ordered pairs that chain up (like Mia < Sam < Ava < Leo) are enough. Pairs that don't share names still help by eliminating slot assignments.

Check the lookalike comparison on this page: it spells out the difference from the nearest neighbor clue and what mis-taps usually follow from mixing them up.
Put it into practice
