Use the morning-match clues to place the blue ball and both morning referees, then read the most-players clue for a key number.

Use the remaining times and the sunset referee clue to place the last time slots and D's referee.

Miscounting the half-as-many clue
It is easy to put 4 on B because the clue says 'half as many as match B' — but B has the most players. Solve B as 8 from the volleyball final clue first, then set A to 4.
Rushing the woman referee
The sunset clue is a time/referee combo, so don't drop Minnie just because she is the only woman. Confirm whether D is the remaining Evening slot before dragging her card.

The puzzle rewards reading clues in the right order: colors first, then morning matches, then player counts. The half-as-many clue depends on the most-players clue, so doing B's count first avoids a classic mistake. The sunset line is both a time clue and a referee clue, which makes it easy to rush. Once the fixed cells start filling, the remaining blanks solve themselves.
